Glacier Lagoon, Waterfalls and Geyser

Day 1

Reykjavík – Geyser – Gullfoss – Stokkseyri – Selfoss

 

The first stop would be at Thingvallavatn, Iceland’s largest natural lake, and the Thingvellir National Park; site of Iceland’s first parliament that was established in 930. Thingvellir became a UNESCO world heritage site in 2004 for its unique geological features and historical importance for the Icelandic nation.

Next stop would be at Gullfoss waterfall, the “Golden Waterfall”, which is Europe’s second most powerful waterfall,  and the Geyser geothermal area, where Strokkur spouts its hot water and steam up to 25-30 meters high. On the way back there is a stop at Kerid, a beautifully shaped crater.

In the afternoon a visit to the Ghost Center at Selfoss where the most famous ghosts in Iceland live.

 

Day 2

South Shore – Kirkjubæjarklaustur

Travel to Iceland - GT TravelToday we will head along the south shore of Iceland, all the way to Kirkjubæjarklaustur.

This area is well known for its beautiful landscapes, magnificent waterfalls, rich farmlands, large areas of black sand, great glaciers and small villages.

During the day, many stops will be made at interesting places, such as Seljalandsfoss waterfall and Skógafoss waterfall.

Furthermore, the stunning basalt columns jointing on the Reynisfjara beach and the coastal village of Vik are also on the list of stops for the tour. In Vik is one of the biggest hand craft shops in Iceland called Víkurprjón.  We will then pass the great lava Eldhraun before arriving to Kirkjubæjarklaustur area where we will stay overnight.

    

 

Day 3

Skaftafell National Park – Glacial Lagoon

 

Glacier Lagoon - GT TravelThe “Jökulsárlón” glacial lagoon is one of the greatest natural pearls in south Iceland.

On the way to the lagoon, you will be astonished at the diversity of the landscape in this part of the country. You will get an opportunity to explore some of this amazing scenery.

Along the coastline, you can see many glacial tongues and one of Iceland’s largest volcanoes, Öræfajökull glacier, with the highest peak in the country. 

When we arrive at the glacial lagoon you have the option of a boat tour on the lagoon, you can explore this beautiful area that is rich in bird life, as it is among the main breeding grounds of the Arctic tern and the great skua.

 

Before we head back to our accommodation at Kirkjubæjarklaustur area we make a stop at the National Park Skaftafell, where we will have the option to take a walk to the waterfall Svartifoss, which is one of a kind. 

 

Day 4

South Shore – Skógar - Eyjafjallajökull – Reykjavík

Travel in Iceland - GT TravelA stop at the magnificent Fjaðrárgljúfur, a visit to the Skógar museum and a visit to the visitor center at Thorvaldseyri near the volcano Eyjafjallajökull.

 We head back to Reykjavík where the tour ends.
