The Golden Circle is a very popular and instructive tour. During this excursion, you will encounter Iceland in all its aspects: its geological and natural wonders, its historical past and present and its rich cultural heritage.
Highlights include Nesjavellir Geothermal Power Plant; Thingvallavatn, Iceland’s largest natural lake; Thingvellir National Park; Gullfoss, the “Golden Waterfall”, which is Europe’s second most powerful waterfall and the Geyser geothermal area.
We drive towards the largest Icelandic lake, Thingvallavatn. From there, we continue to Thingvellir National Park, the site of Iceland’s first parliament that was established in 930. Thingvellir became a UNESCO world heritage site in 2004 for its unique geological features and historical importance for the Icelandic nation.
After that, we drive over the mountain pass Lyngdalsheidi to the majestic Gullfoss, “Golden Waterfall”, Europe's second most powerful waterfall. We then visit the Geyser geothermal area, where Strokkur spouts its hot water and steam up to 25-30 metres high. We continue our tour through the southern lowlands. Before reaching our hotel, we stop for a short visit to the beautifully shaped Kerid crater.
